If you are giving it your all at Illuminate you know exactly that feeling of total depletion. Your muscles are shot and your energy levels are bottoming out the second you step out of the studio. People get distracted by all the fancy bottles on the shelves at supplement stores but the stuff that actually helps you recover does not need to be complicated or expensive.

First things first is protein. You have to feed the damage you just did to your muscle fibers during those circuits. A clean whey protein or a solid plant based blend is the easiest way to jumpstart the repair process within thirty minutes of finishing your session. It is not about chugging a gallon of it but simply getting those amino acids into your bloodstream while your body is primed to use them for rebuilding.

Next you have to respect the sweat you leave on that gym floor. You are training in Houston so you are losing minerals much faster than you realize. A good electrolyte powder is not optional if you want to avoid that nasty post workout headache and brain fog. Focus on something that has a decent balance of sodium potassium and magnesium because those are the keys to keeping your nervous system firing correctly after a high intensity bout.

Creatine monohydrate is another one that people overthink. You do not need to cycle it or load it up with massive amounts of sugar. Just five grams a day is enough to help with muscle recovery and cellular energy. It is boring and cheap but it works better than almost anything else on the market for keeping your strength up over the long haul.

Finally consider adding a high quality omega three supplement. Intense circuits induce a lot of systemic inflammation and fish oil is like grease for your joints. If you feel that deep ache in your knees or shoulders after a week of heavy training it is usually a sign that your body is struggling to manage that internal inflammation. Keep your routine simple and focus on these foundations because the flashy stuff is almost never worth your hard earned money.

Our programs

The Sweat Standard: The perfect workout in one hour.
This class combines cardiovascular training with strength training using a variety of equipment such as barbells, kettlebells, dumbbells, battle ropes, and resistance bands. You will spend 50% of the class working with weights and the other 50% on a cardio machine. The definitive workout for real results!

Sweat Express:
A 45 minute class. The format is very similar to the Standard class but with shorter sets.
Great for those who want to burn calories but are short on time!

Sweat Just Lift:
A 60 minute class for those looking to focus exclusively on strength training.
The programming for this class is aligned with the Standard class to ensure you do not miss any of the primary lifts. For example, on Mondays the focus is on quads and abs. This is a great option for those who have other cardiovascular training options during the week.
